Proposed road works on the A420 & C180 Allington Crossroads, Chippenham.

Site Plan (PDF)

The works will include drainage improvements, installation of new kerbing, resurfacing and installation of road markings.

These works are programmed to start on Monday 26th March 2012 and last for approximately 5 weeks.

The works will be carried out in two phases. Phase one will utilise 4 way temporary traffic signals and a temporary 30mph speed limit. Phase two will be for the carriageway resurfacing operations. A road closure will be used from Monday 16th April 2012 for 5 nights between the hours of 19:00 – 00:00 to ensure the safety of the workforce, road users and any other members of the public.

The diversion route for all ‘through’ traffic will be south on A350, south west on A4, north west on A46 then east on A420 & vice versa. Appropriate diversionary signage will be erected informing motorists of the closure and advising the alternative route.

Access for residents and businesses within the closure will be maintained, however there may inevitably be some disruption and delays.

During the surfacing works dedicated Traffic Management operatives at each entrance of the site will monitor access and give motorists assistance. Please appreciate that these people are there to look after the safety of the travelling public and the safety of the workforce.

I trust you will find the above useful and should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me on the details below or Jim Bailey of Wiltshire Council on 07771 721321.
