A member of Youth Action Wiltshire
The aim of our youth club is to provide a safe environment for young adults to take part in and enjoy a variety of activities. These include holidays away, such as a recent weekend at Oxenwood and previous visits to the Lake District and France. We regularly take the youngsters swimming, ice skating and ten pin bowling. Local activities are based at the village hall, with the seasonal night hike and backwoods cooking evening.
Everyone is welcome as long as they are in Secondary Education, but obviously, as there is sometimes a waiting list, we do give priority to young people who have been to the village school and those living in our group of villages. Young people from surrounding towns are catered for in their own areas at the Bridge Centre in Chippenham and the Mansion House in Corsham. The weekly meetings normally take place on a Wednesday evening from 8.00 – 9.30pm during term.
The adult leaders are volunteers who have been screened by Wiltshire Constabulary as suitable to work with children. We are always in need of additional leaders – so if you know of anyone who could spare 1 ½ hours on the occasional Wednesday evening, please ask them to contact Alan Brinkworth, see below, for a chat. Ideally we would like sufficient leaders so that they would only need to attend on alternate weeks, that way spreading the load.
